Do Instagram posts show up on Google? What changed, and who it applies to

· 5 min read

Yes. Since 10 July 2025, public posts from Instagram professional (business or creator) accounts run by adults can appear in Google and Bing results. The caption’s first line usually becomes the result’s title.

The short answer

Yes, if three things are true: the account is a professional account (business or creator), it’s public, and its owner is 18 or over. Posts and Reels from those accounts can be shown by search engines, including Google and Bing.

Instagram had let some public posts appear in search before, in some places. The July 2025 change made it official and widened it, and it’s switched on by default for eligible accounts.

What can and can’t appear

  • Can appear: public photo posts, carousels and Reels from eligible professional accounts.
  • Can’t appear: private accounts, personal (non-professional) accounts, accounts of people under 18, Stories, and direct messages.

Reports differ on whether very old posts are included. If an old post matters to you, search for it yourself rather than assume.

How an Instagram post looks in Google

On desktop, an Instagram post usually shows as a normal result: Instagram as the source with the account name, a blue title, and a snippet. On phones it often appears in a row of short videos, with a tall thumbnail and the first words under it.

The title usually comes from the caption’s first line. That is the line most captions spend on “Happy Monday ✨” or “So today I want to talk about…”, which tells a searcher nothing.

Google writes result titles from the page, and can change them. You can’t set the title directly; you can make the first line the best candidate.

How to check your account

  1. Make sure the account is a professional account (Settings → Account type and tools).
  2. Make sure it’s public.
  3. Look for Instagram’s setting that allows public photos and videos to appear in search engine results. It’s on by default for eligible accounts; the menu path changes between app versions.
  4. Search Google for your account name plus a word from a recent caption, and see what shows.

Want to stay out of search? Switch that same setting off. Posts that were already indexed can take time to disappear.

What to do about it

Treat each caption’s first line as a search title: say what the post is, in the words people would search, before Google cuts the line off. The next guide shows how, with examples.
